Sound in the Chapel
Understanding Each School’s Needs
At Bravo Events, a large part of what we do is supporting schools with reliable, high-quality lighting, sound, and AV systems that work seamlessly day to day. One of our long-standing partnerships is with Wellington School in Somerset, where we’ve been providing technical support and installations since 2000.
Over the years, we’ve worked with the school to upgrade a wide range of teaching and performance spaces – from classrooms and lecture halls to their chapel and drama studio. Many of the older systems we inherited were underpowered, poorly installed, or simply no longer fit for purpose. Amplifiers had been overdriven, speakers had failed, and the sound coverage just wasn’t meeting the needs of the spaces.
Our goal was simple: to create systems that delivered excellent sound quality, were easy for staff and students to use, and blended into the school environment without disruption.
Keeping Things Consistent
One of the key reasons our AV installations work so well across Wellington School is consistency. Every space we upgrade uses the same core setup – including EVID speakers, Denon rack mixers, Crown XLS amplifiers, and Sennheiser G4 wireless mics.
This means that whether someone’s teaching in the conference room, leading a service in the chapel, or running a rehearsal in the drama studio, the controls, layout, and connections are all familiar.
‘With all the racks looking almost identical, the idea was that anyone could go into any room, switch on the rack, connect their media, and get going,’ explains Bravo Events Managing Director, Isaac Cowlard. ‘It makes it simple for staff and students, and it keeps everything looking tidy and professional.’
Making Smart Audio Choices
The most recent upgrade was the school’s chapel – a Grade II listed building with a distinctive blue floor, decorative ceiling, and intricate wooden panelling. The existing sound system wasn’t performing well, so we designed a solution that respected the building’s aesthetics while dramatically improving audio coverage.
We installed Crown XLS 1002 DriveCore 2 amplifiers and EVID 6.2 speakers. Because we couldn’t mount the speakers on the walls, we built custom wooden stands, painted to match the chapel’s colour scheme, and fixed neatly into the moulding.
‘The EVID speakers look great and sound fantastic,’ says Isaac. ‘They blend into the space really well and give even coverage throughout the room. With four speakers carefully positioned, the chaplain can clip on a mic and walk anywhere in the chapel without worrying about feedback.’
